This course continues Veterinary Clinic Pathology I with an emphasis on complete blood cell counts and common blood chemistry tests performed in a veterinary laboratory. Cytology preparation and interpretation as well as common microbiologic testing is also discussed.
Prerequisite: AGV 109  , AGV 133  , AGV 140  , AGV 145  , AGV 151  , AGV 165  , AGV 166  , AGV 170  , AGV 245  
  1. Perform a complete blood cell count 
    1. Prepare and stain a blood smear
    2. Recognize RBCs
    3. Identify various WBCs
  2. Illustrate other hematological tests
    1. Describe RBC hematological indices
    2. Explain technology behind hematological testing equipment available
    3. Discuss normal values for blood cells
    4. Perform reticulocyte counts
  3. Evaluate individual blood chemistry testing methods
    1. Identify various blood chemistries
    2. Relate the application of different chemistry testing methods
    3. Explain technology behind blood chemistry analyzers available
  4. Differentiate tests for specific patients based on clinical information
    1. Identify various panels and their application.
    2. Discuss results of panels and their significance
    3. Perform test procedure for blood chemistry panel
  5. Demonstrate common cytological diagnostic tests and sample preparation
    1. Demonstrate sample collection techniques and preparations
    2. Discuss normal and abnormal characteristics and types of cells
  6. Perform common microbiologic testing
    1. Describe collection procedures
    2. Explain microbial identification techniques
    3. Culture bacteria and perform susceptibility testing
