This advanced course is designed to prepare an experienced medical coder to sit for a national certification. Students will review how to assign CPT, ICD-CM and Level II (PCPC) codes to a wide range of original source medical documents. There may be other requirements to sit for testing. Please check with certifying body.

Students may start any semester.
Program Entry Requirements
- Complete an application for admission.
- Satisfy the assessment requirement.
- Attend any required information/registration session.
- Successful completion of HSC 120 , MAP 141 , MAP 144 , MAP 150 or program chair approval.
To earn a Medical Coding Certification Preparation certificate, a student must complete all required coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average and receive a “C” or better in all MAP, MTR, HSC, and BCA courses.

- Experience and/or previous course work as a Medical Coder.
- Competency in keyboarding, editing, and proofreading.

- This certificate is a review of Medical Coding for the purpose of preparing to take a national certification test. Scheduling the test and paying the test fee is the responsibility of the student.
