Basic skills will be developed in GMA (MIG) welding. The course will cover the understanding of specialty equipment used in an auto collision repair facility, including, but not limited to, glue pull, stud gun/wiggle wire and PDR rods. Safety is emphasized.
Corequisite: CRR 150 and CRR 311 and CRR 406 and CRR 520
Competencies

Demonstrate setting up and adjusting GMA (MIG) and resistance spot welders
1. Demonstrate adjusting the GMA (MIG) welder to “tune” for proper electrode stickout, voltage, polarity, flow rate, and wire-feed speed required for the material being welded
2. Show proper joining of steel coupons using the resistance spot welder
Demonstrate industry acceptable welds
1. Demonstrate successful plug weld
2. Demonstrate successful stitch weld
3. Demonstrate destructive weld test
Develop essential skills to use a resistant spot welder
1. Show attachment or repair of a tab to a metal panel
2. Demonstrate repair of a puncture or tear in metal using a combination of hammer and dolly, along with welding techniques
Develop repair techniques to repair torn metal
1. Demonstrate metal finishing techniques to bring metal together
2. Demonstrate cleaning and preparation of metal to be welded
3. Show proper metal fit-up and clamp as required
Determine proper dents to repair using a stud gun technique
1. Demonstrate successful removal of damage using a stud gun
2. Demonstrate proper judgment to know when metal finishing may be accomplished
Identify damages that can be repaired with PDR or glue pull techniques
1. Demonstrate knowledge of general PDR repair, when it can be used, and what the limitations of these types of repairs are
2. Demonstrate knowledge of the limitations of glue pulling
3. Make use of glue pull equipment without damage of the finish
