AA6001 - Institutional Review Board (IRB) for Internal and External Stakeholders Student Services: Academic Affairs
Section: AA
SubSection: 6001
Master List Section: Academic Affairs Procedures
Institutional Regulations
A. Procedure: The college has a 3-tier system - individuals will start on the main page, then they will self-select if they are a student, faculty, or external stakeholder.
- Student:
- First, they must fill out information on who they are, their student ID, and a basic study outline. They will then complete an IRB application form outlining their study, an informed consent form for participants, a copy of the survey/questionnaire used, proof of CITI training, a signature of support by a professor, and then submit it to the IRB coordinator. They will then wait 2 weeks for a response to see if a full board review is required. If a full-board review is required, they will wait one month for the full-board review based on the information outlined in the IRB handbook. Should the IRB approve and pass it as exempt, they will be allowed to start their study.
-
Employee:
-
First, they will fill out the information on who they are, their job, and their study. They will then complete an IRB application form outlining their study, an informed consent form for participants, a copy of the survey/questionnaire used, and proof of CITI training and then submit it to the IRB coordinator. They will then submit their proof of having finished CITI training. They will then wait 2 weeks for a response to see if a full board review is required. If a full-board review is required, they will wait one month for the full-board review based on the information outlined in the IRB handbook. Should it pass as being exempt, they will be allowed to continue pulling the data.
-
External:
-
First, they will fill out information on who they are, their business or educational institution and what they will study. They will then complete an IRB application form, an informed consent form for participants, a copy of the survey/questionnaire used, and proof of CITI training, then submit it to the IRB coordinator. They will submit a small paragraph explaining why they want to do their research at DMACC. They will also demonstrate that they will not require any support from DMACC. Support will be defined as a DMACC employee who will sign off on the importance of the research and will supervise the research.
-
Should external researchers want student emails, they will be asked to submit a Freedom of Information Act request. If they are from an external university, they will be asked to get proof of IRB support from their home university. They will then submit their completed proof of CITI ethics training, specifically the social and behavioral research and social and behavioral responsible conduct of research modules.
-
They will then wait 2 weeks for a response to see if a full-board review is required. If a full-board review is required, they will wait one month for the full-board to review based on the information outlined in the IRB handbook. Should it pass the IRB as exempt, they will be allowed to continue pulling the data.
-
Having completed their study, they will be asked to present or send a summary of their findings to the IRB Board and allow DMACC to keep the slide deck or written report of their findings.
