AA611 - Academic Program Elimination and Teach Out Policies
From time to time, an academic program (including degrees, majors, and certificates) will be terminated due to one or more of the following:
- Low enrollment
- Academic quality and/or financial viability
- Changing College priorities
- Departmental or organizational restructuring
- Requirements of accrediting or other regulatory bodies alignment with the College mission
- Changes to market demand
- Changes to community need, educational trends, faculty retirements, or program departure, performance, and duplication of programs, etc.
- Budget cuts
- Other relevant internal or external trends or requirements
The program evaluation process will include an annual program vitality study for every program. When a program has been identified for additional review and is scheduled for termination, the College has an obligation to any students currently enrolled in an impacted program to provide a reasonable opportunity for them to complete their academic program and or provide them with appropriate guidance. The relevant procedure (AA6000) outlines general policies for “teaching out” terminated programs. In each case, program administration and faculty will develop a customized plan tailored to the needs of that program’s students. Based on the President’s recommendation the Board will vote on each program presented to them to terminate.
