ES4105 - Course and/or Program Requirements

1. Institutional Regulation
   
   This procedure outlines the admission requirements for acceptance into specific programs or courses at Des Moines Area Community College (the College).
    
2. Procedures
   1. Department Entry Requirements
      
      Many of the DMACC Career and Technical programs require that applicants demonstrate that they possess certain skill sets prior to being admitted into the program. These requirements may include but not be limited to:
      1. Minimum test scores for reading, math and/or English;
      2. Specific high school or previous college gpa;
      3. Successful completion and a specific grade for a prerequisite course;
      4. Portfolio evaluation;
      5. Receipt of final high school or equivalent transcript;
      6. Interview;
      7. Attend a department information session; or
         Specific program requirements can be found in the DMACC catalog under Programs of Study.
   2. Program/Course Specific Requirements
      
      Some programs and/or courses require a special process or requirement be met before students are allowed to be accepted, register, or continuation in a program. The following is a list of these processes/requirements. More specific information may be outlined in program manuals, course syllabi, and the College catalog.
       
   3. Prerequisites
      
      Some courses require that students prove prior knowledge/experience/abilities or meet physical requirements. This achieved knowledge/experience is defined by prerequisites as outlined in the college catalog and program information briefs.
      
      If a student has not completed a prerequisite prior to enrolling in a course/program, the student may be administratively withdrawn from the course/program.
       
   4. Immunizations
      
      Students may need up-to-date immunization records per program requirements.
       
   5. Health Physical/Screening
      
      Students may be required to complete a health physical/screening as defined by the department.
       
   6. Allergy Disclosure
      
      Students with allergy concerns should contact the DMACC Disability Services Office for information for appropriate academic accommodations.
       
   7. CPR
      
      Some programs may require a valid up-to-date CPR card issued for Health Care Providers, Basic Life Support (BSL) or an equivalent level.
       
   8. Drug Screening
      
      In cases where a student is required to complete a drug screening, the student is responsible for the cost of the screening. Evidence of drug misuse could jeopardize the admission of the student. Failure to complete the process may jeopardize enrollment/continuation in the program.
       
   9. Criminal Background Checks
      
      In cases where a student is required to complete a background check, the student may be responsible for the cost of the background check. If a background check is not clear, the student will be responsible for obtaining documents showing rehabilitation and/or having the record corrected. A background check may not be required to participate in a program of study. In some given fields of employment not passing a criminal background check may prevent you from gaining employment.
       
   10. Valid Driver’s License and Insurance
       1. Students enrolling in certain programs, examples: ASEP, ASSET, CAP and Caterpillar Technology programs must be insurable by industry standards in order to drive vehicles at internship sites.
       2. Students enrolling in the Transportation Institute must have a valid driver’s license in order to obtain a CDL permit.
       3. Students enrolling in other DMACC programs that require travel to internship sites may require students to have valid driver’s licenses.
