BS5505 - School Closing - Inclement Weather Procedure

The College may be closed should weather cause adverse travel conditions, inability of the college to operate facility infrastructure, or significant structural damage, which would affect the safety and wellbeing of students, employees or visitors.
- Procedure
- Determination for closure or delay of campus activities shall be made by the appropriate authority at each campus location based upon consideration of local conditions, using the most up to date information available.
- Appropriate authority is as follows:
- Ankeny Campus

- Director, Campus Safety and Security
- Assistant Director, Evening Services
- Boone Campus
- Provost

- Carroll Campus

- Announcement of school closing procedure
- If it is determined weather conditions warrant the closure of the College for the entire day the announcement shall be made by the Director of Campus Safety and Security or the appropriate Campus Provost using RAVE or InformaCast.
- If the closure is of a local nature, a similar announcement shall be made specific to the location(s) affected using RAVE or InformaCast.
- College closure shall be announced using RAVE or InformaCast, as well as central Iowa TV stations as soon as practical, with a target time prior to 6:00 a.m. for full day or Saturday closings and by 4:00 p.m. for evening closures. The DMACC Marketing department will also be notified of closure details in order to post the announcement on the DMACC homepage.
- Each winter season central Iowa TV stations choose a unique call code to eliminate unauthorized calls. It shall be the responsibility of the Executive Director of Physical Plant or Director of Campus Safety and Security to acquire these call codes and confidentially record them.
