MMS 482 - Video Production III

Examine the use of effective video technics, wardrobe, acting, backgrounds, and props. Instruction includes application of effective plots and plot structure to fit the message being communicated. Lab activities will emphasize getting the concept from a raw idea to production using industry standard procedures and practices in production activities. 
Prerequisite: MMS 481

  1. Demonstrate effective creativity in planning and development of video segments on specialized topics
    1. Discuss pre-production activities
    2. Apply screen writing and scripts
    3. Develop story boards
    4. Develop shot lists
  2. Research topics in technology and use the information to produce a social media video, etc.
    1. Identify topic from a creative brief or client input
    2. Segment a story board based on natural segmentation of information
    3. Develop a script
    4. Develop a shot list
    5. Shoot the video footage
    6. Record the soundtrack
    7. Edit and produce and the content
  3. Execute standard pre-production skills including scheduling, scripting, budgeting, and crew and equipment selection
    1. Discuss the principals of on-set safety guidelines and procedures
    2. Utilize basic video production equipment correctly, safely, and creatively, including cameras, lights, and audio
    3. Discuss the need to use control room equipment such as audio mixers, switchers, video recording, character generation and teleprompter as necessary
  4. Apply traditional video techniques to shoot projects properly regardless of type
    1. Shoot video footage of listed techniques
    2. Shoot video footage to match story board concepts and audio scripts
    3. Review daily work and schedule reshoots of content as necessary
    4. Demonstrate the ability to shoot fully for coverage
    5. Discuss the necessity to provide full sequence content of the show for a more cohesive and professional edit
  5. Demonstrate video editing and methods
    1. Import media into software for editing
    2. Use software to edit a video presentation
    3. Use digital cut and splice features to edit for effective content and story
    4. Demonstrate effective audio editing technics
    5. Edit for effective color
    6. Build composites, scale, position, crop, and distort images
    7. Demonstrate media-management strategies
    8. Demonstrate transitions, effects, and filters, in addition rendering options
  6. Assess the creative elements to effectively communicate intended message
    1. Edit for effective presentation
    2. Discuss special effects to enhance interest
    3. Evaluate footage and edit to improve quality
    4. Discuss the effectiveness of the videos message
  7. Characterize being a contributing member of a production team
    1. Demonstrate a willingness to work with other members toward a common goal
    2. Exhibit appropriate interpersonal skills in a team environment
