MMS 481 - Video Production II

Learn to implement elements and principles of digital video production. Explore how to start from a basic concept to develop and produce short video segments for use in web sites or other digital media. Emphasis will be placed on getting the concept from a raw idea to production using industry standard software to produce and edit content. 
Prerequisite: MMS 480  
Competencies
  1. Demonstrate the creative process for targeted communication using principles of design as applied to video production wardrobe selection process
    1. List effective appearance criteria for selected presentations
    2. Apply color theory to wardrobe selection
  2. Examine effective acting characteristics
    1. Work with talent and being able to elicit the correct actions and reactions necessary for the production
    2. Discuss and examine timing of vocal and action activities
  3. Assess effective use of backgrounds and props
    1. Examine effective use of backgrounds and props
    2. Demonstrate green screen effects
  4. Apply the creative process to develop a production quality video presentation as an interview setup
    1. Write a treatment/script with appropriate questions
    2. Determine a sound recording plan using proper set protocols
    3. Describe how one would use a light setup, including 3-point lighting, broad lights, key lights, fills, rims, kickers, etc.
    4. Explain how to block the set with a camera setup with a geographical set map
    5. Discuss the effects created by wide, normal, and narrow angle lenses
    6. Develop story boards
  5. Produce a portfolio show / interview, to market students using industry standard live production and editing software
    1. Describe how to organize the set
    2. Set up all lights properly for green screen exposure
    3. Develop a shot list
    4. Explain how to properly setup cameras and tripods
    5. Describe how to setup and use audio gear and booms for live recording
  6. Defend video editing effectively to communicate intended message
    1. Import media into software for editing
    2. Use software to edit a video presentation
    3. Edit for effective presentation
    4. Apply special effects to enhance video
    5. Evaluate post-production editing techniques and edit to improve quality
  7. Analyze the differences in the requirements for production of different media
    1. Discuss and list the different features of various media
    2. Describe the unique requirements of each medium as related to the production process
