The advanced certificate is designed as a transfer certificate for Iowa State University (ISU) Masters in Cybersecurity Engineering. A BS/BA degree is required and experience in the IT field is recommended. The courses in this advanced certificate focus on second year courses and are a higher level than introductory courses.

1. Students must have a BA/BS degree prior to enrollment.

2. Students should have basic computer competencies prior to registering for the certificate. 

Program Graduation Requirements


To earn a Cybersecurity certificate , a student must complete all required coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

What Kind of Work Will You Do?


  • Monitor anti-threat solutions and takes the appropriate actions to resolve any threats.
  • Perform network scanning and vulnerability assessments and maintains patch management system.
  • Create and maintain documentation regarding all security violations, incidents and malware infections.
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of security controls, processes and procedures.
  • Assist with ensuing compliance with various regulations and industry standards.
  • Update secure configurations by routinely reviewing vendor sites, bulletins, and notifications for security information.
  • Research, test and recommend new software and hardware to enhance security efficiency to meet needs.
