The Accounting Certificate is designed to provide basic financial knowledge in the accounting field and/or enhance current job skills. All of the classes will allow you seamless transfer into either the Accounting & Bookkeeping diploma or Accounting Specialist program. Additionally it offers accounting credentials that complement other degrees and adds additional skills to your resume.

Students may start any semester.


Program Entry Requirements


  1. Must complete ACC 104, 1 year of high school accounting, or ACC 131 with a C or better. 

Graduation Requirements


To earn an Accounting Certificate, a student must complete all coursework as prescribed, maintain a 2.0 grade point average and receive a grade of “C” or higher in all ACC coursework.

*Total credits are calculated using the least number of credits needed to satisfy the option requirements.

These credits are applicable to the Accounting and Bookkeeping diploma  and the AAS degree in Accounting Specialist .

Note:


Students planning to transfer to a four-year institution should check with that institution regarding math requirements before selecting courses for this program.

What Kind of Work Will You Do?


  • Perform basic accounting tasks including analyzing transactions.
  • Apply computer skills using QuickBooks, Peachtree, and/or Excel.
  • Communicate with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.

  • Be able to apply the skills and knowledge gained through course work.
  • Be able to follow instructions.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of business operations.

What Else Should I Consider about this Specialist Certificate?


  • Each hour of class requires two to three hours of preparation.
  • Reading and math skills are very important.
  • Career advancement will ordinarily require further training and education.
  • Regular classroom attendance is important for continuity of learning.

  1. Demonstrate Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and double entry accounting. 
  2. Utilize relevant software to perform accounting functions.
