FIR 201 - Firefighter II

The Firefighter II course is an advanced training course that builds upon the knowledge and skills acquired in Firefighter I, focusing on leadership, advanced suppression tactics, incident management, and specialized rescue operations. It is designed to meet the performance objectives of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 1001, Firefighter Level II. It is often the final step in becoming certified as an interior structural firefighter.
Corequisite: FIR 129  and FIR 183  and FIR 199  
Competencies
  1. Demonstrate advanced fire suppression and control in various scenarios, including flammable liquid and gas fires
  2. Perform Incident Management Implementation of the Incident Control/Command System (ICS 200 level) with strategic and tactical decision-making and team coordination
  3. Exhibit Specialized Rescue Vehicle extrication and technical rescue, assisting specialized rescue teams
  4. Demonstrate in-depth understanding of building materials and collapse considerations related to fire and life safety
  5. Apply Fire Cause and Origin Procedures for protecting evidence and assisting in determining the cause and origin of a fire
  6. Examine Fire Prevention & Public Education Principles of fire prevention, conducting pre-incident surveys (pre-fire planning), and public education activities.
  7. Exhibit proper equipment maintenance, including testing fire hoses, operating foam fire streams, and practicing general equipment maintenance procedures
  8. Demonstrate communications and reports for fire department communication procedures, completing fire reports and necessary documentation (e.g., NFIRS documents)
  9. Analyze Firefighter Safety & Survival Advanced safety considerations, including those related to personal protective equipment (PPE) and rapid intervention team (RIT) operations.
