MOR 319 - Funeral Arrangement Operations

This course will provide the student opportunities to simulate the standard operations of a funeral home. Activities will include simulating funeral arrangement conferences, completing standard funeral service forms, and creating memorialization products.
Prerequisite OR Corequisite: MOR 301

Competencies
  1. Outline the common governmental forms and documents
    1. Demonstrate knowledge of death benefits
    2. Complete standard forms (e.g. death certificate, burial transit permit, etc.)
  2. Create funeral service materials utilizing software programs.
    1. Create death notice and/or obituary
    2. Create printed materials (e.g. register book, memorial folders, etc.)
    3. Produce a video tribute
  3. Conduct a simulated funeral arrangement conference(s)
    1. Observe an arrangement conference
    2. Gather the necessary information (e.g. biographical data, vital statistics, etc.)
    3. Demonstrate transitions necessary in an arrangement conference
  4. Compile personalization resources
    1. Research venues for personalized funerals
    2. Research service leaders
    3. Research service participants
    4. Research fraternal and military organizations
  5. Examine aftercare programs
    1. Research aftercare programs
    2. Describe best practices in aftercare programs 
    3. Outline steps in an aftercare program
