CRR 521 - Masking Techniques Credits: 2 Lecture Hours: 1 Lab Hours: 2 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Voc/Tech This course discusses and demonstrates masking techniques for an auto collision repair facility. The curriculum covers facility-acceptable masking applications to allow repairs to be as close as possible to OEM finishes. Prerequisite: CRR 150 Prerequisite OR Corequisite: CRR 206 and CRR 312 Competencies

- Identify various types of masking materials
- Apply plastic masking materials
- Demonstrate paper masking techniques
- Demonstrate aperture tape use
- Demonstrate proper use of plastic
- Examine advanced masking techniques
- Demonstrate proper masking techniques for blend applications
- Demonstrate proper masking techniques for application of seam sealers to panels
- Demonstrate proper masking techniques for open spot refinish procedures
- Examine masking techniques on nontraditional repairs
- Demonstrate use of fine line tapes around trim that may not be removed under certain circumstances
- Demonstrate use of foam in bolt-on panel jambs
- Show masking of electronic devices under hoods and inside doors
- Determine how to protect interiors while refinishing
- Make use of masking materials to prepare door jamb openings for refinishing
- Select masking techniques to be used to protect the interior of a trunk or engine compartment
