PRL 105 - Legal Ethics Credits: 1 Lecture Hours: 1 Lab Hours: 0 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Voc/Tech Studies the canons of professional ethics and disciplinary rules applicable to lawyers and legal assistants, together with applicable disciplinary proceedings and court decisions. - Recognize the ethical rules governing lawyers
- Discuss the Model Rules of Professional Conduct promulgated by the American Bar Association (ABA)
- Discuss rules of professional conduct implemented by states, including the Iowa Rules of Professional Conduct
- Examine the attorney disciplinary process in Iowa
- Explain how the ethical rules governing lawyers and ethical guidelines for paralegals impact work as a paralegal
- Discuss the ABA Guidelines for the Utilization of Paralegals
- Contrast attorneys’ ethical requirements with the ethical guidelines for paralegals
