This course will have students design an office space using modern office design principles. A primary focus of the course will be on evidence-based design. This will encourage students to develop conceptual, innovative, and dynamic workspaces.
Prerequisite: INT 213  
Prerequisite OR Corequisite: INT 136

  1. Investigate office spaces including various functional requirements in offices 
    1. Research systems furniture 
    2. Research basic employee needs  
  2. Study current trends and research in office design 
    1. Research employee well-being movements 
    2. Research latest technology 
    3. Research environmentally friendly interior practices 
  3. Develop a program for the provided office client 
    1. Identify client needs 
    2. Analyze design problems 
  4. Generate preliminary design diagrams and matrices 
    1. Create bubble diagrams 
    2. Analyze adjacency matrix 
    3. Translate bubble diagrams to block diagrams 
    4. Build an inspiration board and preliminary concept sketches
  5. Develop plans that follow required code regulations 
    1. Design fully executed floor plan 
    2. Apply knowledge from lighting class to designing lighting plan 
    3. Input plans into Revit 
    4. Produce sections, elevations, and detail drawings 
  6. Select finishes, materials, equipment, and furniture for office space 
    1. Collect spec sheets for furnishings, fixtures and equipment 
    2. Revise floor plan to reflect customizations 
  7. Create renderings showcasing furnishings, finishes and equipment 
    1. Prepare 3D perspectives of designated spaces using Revit and Enscape 
    2. Devise a rendered floor plan using Photoshop and Revit 
  8. Compose final presentation 
    1. Compile spec book 
    2. Create presentation poster using Adobe suite 
    3. Print poster on large format printer  
    4. Present final design to a review panel
