This course will focus on designing a retail environment. Working in conjunction with APP 235 , Visual Merchandising, students will analyze a retail brand concept and create a brick-and-mortar store for this brand. 
Prerequisite: INT 222  
Corequisite: APP 235

  2. Develop a program for a retail brand storefront concept

    2. Create a brick-and-mortar brand identity

  3. Generate preliminary design diagrams and matrices
    1. Analyze an adjacency matrix 
    2. Create bubble diagrams 
    3. Develop block diagrams 
  4. Build an inspiration board and concept sketches 
    1. Collect imagery for inspiration

  5. Develop floor and ceiling plans that follow code regulations for retail space 
    1. Draft floor plan an input into Revit 
    2. Design reflected ceiling plan and input into Revit 
    3. Create lighting legend 
  6. Create sections and elevations for important areas or features 
    1. Demonstrate relationships between spaces with a building section 
    2. Establish placement of important fixtures with bathroom and kitchen elevations 
  7. Select finishes, materials and appropriate fixtures for the design 
    1. Compile spec sheets for furnishings, finishes and equipment into a spec book 
    2. Create finish schedule for floor plan showing selected materials and finishes 
  8. Create renderings showcasing furnishing, fixtures and equipment selections 
    1. Use Enscape to create fully completed rendering 
    2. Export JPG and refine with photoshop 
  9. Compose a final presentation showcasing designs 
    1. Create a poster representing your designs 
    2. Present design to a review panel
