BUS 940 - Business Capstone

Students will develop and apply the concepts of the strategic management process, which includes the analysis, examination, and evaluation of business issues.  Students will offer solutions to improve a business’ efficiency and effectiveness in the marketplace. This course is recommended during the student’s final semester of study.
Prerequisite: Students must have completed at least 30 semester credit hours in the program prior to taking this course.

  1. Critique a business issue presented by a panel of local business owners
    1. Evaluate business issues presented by business owners
    2. Analyze relevant data to determine the appropriate course of action to remedy the business issues presented
  2. Assess the existing components of the organizational problem or concern
    1. Examine a business’s corporate strategy to determine the goals of the project
    2. Interview key stakeholders in the organization to determine the source of the problem as well as constraints
  3. Predict symptoms of the problem using analytical skills
    1. Explain the competitive advantage of the selected business
    2. Compare and contrast best practices for solving a business problem
  4. Develop alternative solutions and recommend the most effective, ethical, and cost-efficient resolution to the situation
    1. Research three viable alternatives and select one to recommend to business experts
    2. Estimate the cost-benefit analysis of the proposed solution
  5. Develop effective communication skills, both oral and written, to facilitate problem resolution in a timely manner
    1. Devise a written solution for a business problem using research and best practices
    2. Design and present recommendations to a panel of business experts
  6. Interpret strategic management concepts, research, and theories

  7. Simulate the gap between business and management theory and practice
    1. Identify and transfer concepts and techniques learned in program courses such as marketing, accounting, finance, management, operations, and information systems in relation to a specific business problem
