BUS 940 - Business Capstone Credits: 3 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: General Students will develop and apply the concepts of the strategic management process, which includes the analysis, examination, and evaluation of business issues. Students will offer solutions to improve a business’ efficiency and effectiveness in the marketplace. This course is recommended during the student’s final semester of study. Prerequisite: Students must have completed at least 30 semester credit hours in the program prior to taking this course. Competencies
- Critique a business issue presented by a panel of local business owners
- Evaluate business issues presented by business owners
- Analyze relevant data to determine the appropriate course of action to remedy the business issues presented
- Assess the existing components of the organizational problem or concern
- Examine a business’s corporate strategy to determine the goals of the project
- Interview key stakeholders in the organization to determine the source of the problem as well as constraints
- Predict symptoms of the problem using analytical skills
- Explain the competitive advantage of the selected business
- Compare and contrast best practices for solving a business problem
- Develop alternative solutions and recommend the most effective, ethical, and cost-efficient resolution to the situation
- Research three viable alternatives and select one to recommend to business experts
- Estimate the cost-benefit analysis of the proposed solution
- Develop effective communication skills, both oral and written, to facilitate problem resolution in a timely manner
- Devise a written solution for a business problem using research and best practices
- Design and present recommendations to a panel of business experts
- Interpret strategic management concepts, research, and theories
- Evaluate management theories
- Explain internal and external factors that affect an organization
- Simulate the gap between business and management theory and practice
- Identify and transfer concepts and techniques learned in program courses such as marketing, accounting, finance, management, operations, and information systems in relation to a specific business problem
