MFG 271 - Grinders Lab Credits: 3 Lecture Hours: 0 Lab Hours: 6 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Voc/Tech During this course, students will become familiar with basic setups, as well as the safe operation and care of a surface grinder in a lab environment. Corequisite: MFG 270 Competencies
- Operate a manual surface grinder
- Demonstrate a safe grinding setup
- Demonstrate proper technique for operation
- Create parallel and other common surfaces to print specifications
- Operate hydraulic surface grinder
- Demonstrate a safe grinding setup
- Setup surface grinder for operation
- Create parallel and other common surfaces to print specifications
- Create appropriate setup for grinding accessories
- Make use of a rotary device to grind round parts
- Utilize a diamond-dressing device to dress or true wheel
- Construct a safe setup utilizing blocking
- Summarize form dressing
- Examine workpiece form and orientation
- Make use of traditional measuring equipment.
- Utilize a CMM
- Maintain all tooling and equipment (student or school property) in accordance with each individual manufacturer
- Perform required daily maintenance for a surface grinder
- Demonstrate appropriate care of a magnetic chuck
- Demonstrate proper care of a surface plate and accessories
- Demonstrate shop safety as it applies to the grinding machines.
- Wear safety clothing appropriate for operating a surface grinder
- Wear eye protection
- Explain what routine maintenance on the grinding machine must be performed
