- Demonstrate an understanding of relative math
- List value for each decimal place, inch and metric
- State how each decimal place is pronounced
- Convert between inch and metric dimensions
- Use formulas to solve related metrology tasks
- Develop the ability to use the following measuring tools
- Read fractional, decimal, and metric rules
- Interpret vernier scales
- Use caliper type measuring tools to measure within accepted industry standards
- Demonstrate the ability to use micrometer type measuring tools to measure within accepted industry standards
- Develop the ability to measure feature orientation
- Calculate the sine bar elevation required for a given angle
- Calculate the angle for a given sine bar elevation
- Demonstrate the ability to measure perpendicularity using several different methods
- Use a vernier protractor
- Evaluate common comparison type measuring tools
- Demonstrate internal measuring tools such as telescoping gages, dial bore gages, and adjustable parallels
- Explain the use of dial, and test indicators
- Summarize the use of squares
- Demonstrate the appropriate techniques to measure with visual measure tools such as toolmaker’s microscope and an optical comparator
- Make use of optical comparator
- Utilize the tool makers microscope
- Demonstrate the appropriate techniques to measure with gage blocks and gage pins
- Describe the maintenance required to maintain gage blocks
- Demonstrate wringing gage blocks together
- Select combination of gage blocks required for a given height
- Measure external screw threads
- Select appropriate reference material
- Use thread micrometer to measure within accepted industry standards
- Use thread wires to measure within industry standards
- Identify and explain CMM operation and describe some advantages and disadvantages over more conventional measuring methods
