Provides students with the study techniques necessary for successful completion of their college preparatory or college credit math courses. It also addresses feelings and attitudes that might block math learning and offers strategies and techniques designed to overcome these feelings. This class may be used to fulfill corequisite requirements for MAT 110  or MAT 141 . College preparatory courses cannot be used to fulfill degree requirements.
Prerequisite: ALEKS score of 20%

  2. Develop time management in mathematics courses
    1. Discuss math time management
    2. Plan a study schedule
    3. Discuss how grades are calculated

    1. Discuss meeting with an instructor during office hours
    2. Identify supplements to the math text
    3. Identify the process needed to obtain a tutor
    4. Recognize services provided by the Academic Achievement Centers
    5. Discuss the advantages of a study-group/study partner
  4. Examine technology skills required for the study of math
    1. Navigate the institution LMS
    2. Investigate the various software required for the course
    3. Explore Desmos, TI calculator, or other optional technologies
  5. Apply problem solving and critical thinking skills to various math scenarios
    1. Use problem solving strategies
    2. Develop appropriate mathematical models
    3. Make sense of graphical information
  6. Interpret concepts used in the study of mathematics
    1. Communicate through examples what it means to understand mathematical concepts
    2. Demonstrate fundamental concepts within one’s own experiences
  7. Demonstrate a basic understanding of arithmetic
    1. Perform calculations with fractions, decimals, and percentages
    2. Compute answers with the appropriate formulas
  8. Write models for verbal problems
    1. Translate phrases and sentences into mathematical expressions

    1. Analyze content related to corequisite competencies
