DSL 855 - Truck Repair Credits: 5 Lecture Hours: 1 Lab Hours: 8 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Voc/Tech Instruction in the repair and service of equipment relating to the trucking industry. This includes all phases normally done in a general repair shop. Instruction is given under structured lab, classroom and field conditions. Experienced individuals may contact the instructor to gain admittance to this course. Prerequisite: DSL 366 , DSL 546 , DSL 606 , DSL 145 Competencies
- Demonstrate safe use of the following shop tools
- Safely operate a jack and jack stands
- Safely operate a vehicle hoist
- Safely operate an overhead hoist
- Safely operate battery chargers
- Safely operate a parts washer
- Safely operate a sand blasting cabinet
- Demonstrate good shop practices
- Be on time for scheduled shift
- Be on task in the shop
- Maintain a clean and organized work space
- Demonstrate safe practices
- Work with a team
- Show the ability to follow directions and recommended procedures
- Describe the environment of service facility
- Discuss understanding of mandated regulations
- Discuss understanding of hazard identification and prevention
- Perform safety and operational checks on the electrical system
- Inspect battery condition and connections
- Perform battery load test
- Measure voltage drop at starter
- Perform alternator output test
- Service air brake systems- change this comp to air brakes
- Inspect brake chambers, shoes, disc and parking brakes (visual inspection)
- Check for air leaks
