The course has been designed as a leadership development course that will allow students to actively engage in a variety of industry activities in preparation for their involvement as leaders within the industry. The development and practice of leadership skills is achieved through participation in a community or professional organization. Introductory skills to successfully coordinate and conduct a business meeting will be part of the course.

  1. Distinguish the importance of leadership on the agricultural industry
    1. Explore the roles of leaders within the agricultural industry
    2. Analyze the impact of leadership within an agricultural business
    3. Differentiate between various leadership styles while discovering personal style preferences
    4. Develop a personal leadership philosophy
  2. Defend the uniqueness of agricultural leadership
    1. Identify agricultural leaders and their impact on the industry
    2. Develop an understanding of the advocacy process and its impact on public policy
    3. Support the diversity of the agriculture industry through identification of different leadership opportunities by interviewing various industry leaders
    4. Distinguish unethical behavior and the impact it has on decision making
  3. Examine leadership issues
    1. Demonstrate leadership skills through planning fall career fair and community service events
    2. Demonstrate how to operate a successful meeting
    3. Participate in leadership development activities
    4. Develop skills in dealing with conflict resolution
  4. Incorporate business tools associated with leadership
    1. Create a formal resume and cover letter
    2. Utilize proper communication standards through email and phone
    3. Develop interview skills
    4. Participate in public relation activities
