This course introduces hydraulic power use and application, allowing learners to develop skills and knowledge needed to apply hydraulics in modern industry.
Competencies

Demonstration proper use of a hydraulic system
1. Demonstrate the startup of a hydraulic power unit with fixed displacement pump.
2. Perform a normal shutdown of a hydraulic power unit with fixed displacement pump
3. Describe the operation/ components of a hydraulic power unit
Monitor hydraulic system operation
1. Read a hydraulic flow meter
2. Read a hydraulic pressure gauge
Operate basic machine hydraulic components
1. Operate a basic hydraulic valve circuit with manual operator
2. Use hydraulic valve manual overrides to test actuators
Manipulate hydraulic and pneumatic actuator speed
1. Adjust hydraulic actuator speed using a flow control valve
2. Adjust pneumatic actuator speed using a flow control valve
Interpret hydraulic schematics
1. Interpret a basic hydraulic schematic in NFPA/ISO symbols
2. Describe the guidelines for drawing hydraulic schematics
Characterize a hydraulic system
1. Calculate hydraulic pressure given force and area
2. Define hydraulic pressure
