MAP 551 - Health & Disease:Human BodyII Credits: 3 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Voc/Tech Students will incorporate critical thinking skills based on knowledge of course competencies to identify human anatomy and physiology, including interrelationship of organ systems. Common pathology, etiology, diagnostic aids, and treatment options and prognosis including pharmacology related to each body system. Study of interaction that occurs between systems and changes to the structure and function that occur across the life span. Wellness and prevention reviewed with each unit. Medical terminology, definition and pronunciation with key terms for each unit of study. Units studied: respiratory, digestive, nutrition, dietary needs of special populations, nervous, sensory, endocrine, urinary, reproductive, common childhood diseases, nutrition, and end of life care. Prerequisite: MAP 550 with Grade of C or better Competencies

- List major organs in each body system.
- Define medical terms and abbreviations related to all body systems.
- Identify medical terms related to the human body by labeling the word parts.
- Identify body planes, directional terms, quadrants, body cavities.
- State the name of each plane of the human body
- Label the quadrants of the human body
- Compare body structure and function of the human body across the life span
- List physical changes that occur in the human body with age
- State the impact age has on body function
- Describe the normal function of each body system
- Define homeostasis as it applies to human body systems
- Identify indications of abnormal body functions
- Identify common pathology related to each body system
- Analyze pathology for each body system including:diagnostic measures, treatment modalities
- State the prognosis for common pathology of body systems
- Identify the classifications of medications
- State indications for usage of common medications
- List desired effects, side effects, and adverse reactions of common medications
