DRA 224 - Musical Theatre Auditions Credits: 3 Lecture Hours: 45 Lab Hours: 0 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: General An in-depth exploration of industry expectations at auditions for musical theatre. Students will have practical training in preparation and execution of songs used to secure work as an actor in a musical, including, but not limited to, performing memorized songs. The course includes detailed preparation for the process of finding auditions for musicals and compiling and submitting actor’s materials. Competencies

- Establish the procedures utilized by the majority of casting professionals for musicals
- Determine what musical theatre casting professionals deem standard for actor preparation details

- Distinguish effective attributes of songs from musicals in audition settings
- Examine selected songs from effective lyricists and composers with focus on performance qualities in an audition setting
