General competencies including professional behavior, resume and cover letters, professional organizations, scope of practice, standards of care, responsibilities of the certified medical assistant in identifying and responding to issues of confidentiality. Serving as a patient navigator, performing within legal and ethical boundaries, and demonstrating knowledge of federal and state healthcare regulations including HIPAA. Students will incorporate critical thinking skills based on knowledge of medical specialties, medical law and ethics. Competencies include the ability to recognize and respond to verbal and nonverbal communication and to respect individual diversity.
