CRJ 179 - White Collar Crime Credits: 1 Lecture Hours: 1 Lab Hours: 0 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Open This course provides basic understanding of white-collar crime and some of its ramifications. Special attention will be paid to the study of white collar crimes pertaining to corporate crime, occupational crime, governmental and political crime, enterprise/ organized crime, prevention/control mechanisms and societal responses to these crimes. - Define white collar crime and differentiate white collar crimes from other types of crime.
- Identify various examples of white collar crime, deceptive practices and fraud.
- List and recognize examples of corporate crime.
- List and recognize examples of occupational crime.
- List and recognize examples of governmental crime including state crime and political crime.
- List and recognize examples of enterprise or organized crime.
- List and recognize examples of technology-related crime.
- Explain the effects of white collar crime.
- Describe the economic effects in both macro and micro perspectives.
- Identify potential environmental effects of white collar crime.
- Recognize the human impact of white collar crime both directly to the victim and indirectly to society.
- Describe legal responses and social controls of white colar crime.
- Provide examples of common methods to police and regulate against white collar crimes.
- Engage in case studies that explore the prosecution, defense, and adjudication of white collar crime.
- Compare and contrast the effects of white collar crime within cultural institutions of American society, specifically taking in to account financial, political, media and religious institutions.
