ART 174 - Ceramics II Credits: 3 Lecture Hours: 0 Lab Hours: 6 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: General Series of forms, individual help from a professional artist. Topics in ceramics: the “figure,” large-scale works, architectural terra-cotta restoration, outdoor claybodies, building slide portfolio, photographing work, shows and galleries. Kiln firing. Prerequisite: Instructor permission Competencies
- Demonstrate an increased sensitivity/awareness to the material of clay
- Communicate their individual direction/”focus” based on their work
- Demonstrate conversational familiarity with an expanded ceramic vocabulary
- Communicate a working understanding of issues in contemporary ceramics
- Identify and recognize contemporary artists in clay and other materials
- Demonstrate confidence and ability in firing kilns and finishing their own work
- Conduct and communicate research related to the development of concepts in the series of their work
- Demonstrate improvement in their work
