Human Resource Management

Human Resource Management skills are increasingly important for nearly anyone pursuing a career in business. This certificate is designed to provide a background in human resource functions and law for students majoring in Management, Business Administration, Administrative Assistant and Entrepreneurship, among others. This certificate is also beneficial to people employed in business who wish to upgrade their knowledge of human resource procedures.

Students should take BUS 185  in the Fall semester, as it is a prerequisite to BUS 278 .

What Kind of Work Will You Do?


  • Train and instruct employees in job duties and company policies or arrange for training to be provided.
  • Evaluate employees’ job performance and conformance to regulations.
  • Review records and reports pertaining to activities, such as production and payroll in order to verify details, monitor work activities and evaluate performance.
  • Recruit, interview and select employees.
  • Interpret and communicate work procedures and company policies to staff.

  • Demand for managers with Human Resource Management skills, and Human Resource Management Assistants is expected to be high through 2022.
  • Many Human Resource Management positions require a Bachelor’s degree.
