Medical Coding Certificate Preparation

This advanced course is designed to prepare an experienced medical coder to sit for a national certification. Students will review how to assign CPT, ICD-CM and Level II (PCPC) codes to a wide range of original source medical documents.

Students may start any semester.

Program Entry Requirements

  1. Complete an application for admission.
  2. Satisfy the assessment requirement.
  3. Attend any required information/registration session.
  4. Successful completion of MAP 150  or program chair approval.

Graduation Requirements

To earn a Medical Coding Certification Preparation certificate, a student must complete all required coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

  • Experience and/or previous course work as a Medical Coder.
  • Competency in keyboarding, editing, and proofreading.
  • Command of medical terminology and human body health and disease.
  • Attention to detail.

What Else Should I Consider about this Specialist Certificate?


  • This certificate is a review of Medical Coding for the purpose of preparing to take a national certification test. Scheduling the test and paying the test fee is the responsibility of the student.
