The Fitness Specialist Certificate is designed for individuals interested in working or managing a fitness or exercise facility.  This certificate assists the professional in developing skills to aid in business, provide competencies, and enhance professional credentials.

Program Graduation Requirements


To earn a Fitness Specialist Certificate, a student must complete all required coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

  • Students will be able to personal training, sports training, wellness coaching, and facility management.

What Skills and Abilities Will You Need?


  • Operate and maintain fitness/exercise equipment
  •  Demonstrate proper techniques on various types of fitness/exercise equipment.
  • Must have proper physical abilities to perform physical demonstrations.
  • Apply knowledge of physiological principles of exercise and fitness.
  • Be able to identify individual’s fitness needs.
  • Demonstrate appropriate business skills to manage a fitness facility.
  • Organize, schedule, and teach exercise classes, fitness classes, and personal training classes.

What Else Should I Consider about this Program or Career Choice?


  • The work hours could be early morning, late nights, and weekends.
  • You will be working with all kinds of ages and abilities. 

Program Competencies


  1. Identify various personal training assessments.
  2. Write exercise prescriptions for clientele. 
  3. Demonstrate proper use of fitness and exercise equipment.
  4. Apply knowledge of physiological principles.
  5. Communicate effectively in a fitness business setting. 
  6. Apply business skills to the fitness industry.
