This Associate of Science transfer degree is designed for students transferring to Iowa State University, the University of Northern Iowa, the University of Iowa or Upper Iowa University to study Biology. Requirements may vary at other institutions so students should become familiar with the specific course requirements of the four-year institution to which they plan to transfer.

To earn a Biology Transfer Major AS Degree, a student must complete all required coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

Note:


Complete 3 semester credit hours to satisfy the Diversity Requirement with a minimum grade of “C.” The Diversity Requirement does not increase the number of credits required for graduation. The course used to fulfill the Diversity Requirement may also be used to fulfill three credits of Core requirements in Communications, Social & Behavioral Sciences, Humanities or Distributed Requirements, providing the diversity course is listed as fulfilling Core requirements in Communications, Social & Behavioral Sciences or the Humanities. If the course does not fall under any of the Core groups, the course used to fulfill the Diversity Requirement may count as an elective.

It is recommended to take distributed and elective coursework in the biological sciences based on area of interest within the discipline. Transferability of these courses should be considered prior to completion.

It is recommended to take Calculus I as early as possible, waiting no later than semester 3 to complete this degree requirement.

  • BIO 146 - Genetics
  • BIO 186 - Microbiology 
  • MAT 156 - Statistics 
  • BIO 250 - Cell & Molec Bio-Nucleic Acids
  • BIO 251 - Cell Molecular Bio-Proteins
