An increasing number of people are realizing the rewards and challenges of owning their own businesses. The Entrepreneurship program will help students create or improve plans to be successful in owning or operating a Small-Business. Although students may have the technical skills or be very knowledgeable about a certain industry, the Entrepreneurship program emphasizes how passion and skills tie into the day-to-day operation of a business. In addition, this flexible program is designed to impact students in their work environments in the real world, regardless of whether students start a business or not. This is accomplished through various innovative marketing strategies, current creative financing methods, and employee development skills. The program also emphasizes personal development in accounting, supervision, communication and relationship management. To make it convenient for today’s busy students, courses are being offered during the day, evening, and online.

Graduation Requirements


To earn an Entrepreneurship certificate, a student must complete all required coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

Total Credits Required to Complete this Certificate - 25*


*Total credits are calculated using the least number of credits need to satisfy the option requirements.

These credits are applicable to the Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, AAS  .

What Kind of Work Will You Do?


  • Possibility of starting your own business.
  • Assist management in small business operations.
  • Provide information and suggestions to management, coworkers and/or customers.
  • Communicate in person, by telephone, or in writing with management, coworkers and/or customers.
  • Hire personnel, direct, supervise and evaluate their work.
  • Sell products or services to customers.
  • Create, coordinate and communicate solutions to work environment or for customers.
  • May be responsible for information management to include small computer operation, typing, data entry, report preparation and documentation.

What Else Should I Consider About this Specialist Certificate?


  • Reading, communication and math skills must be at college level to gain maximum benefit from classes.
  • For career advancement and advanced position placement, it is important that students continue college coursework beyond the two-year program.
  • For transferability to four-year colleges and universities, it is important that students work closely with advisors and admissions counselors.
  • Average starting salary $31,000 (2010-2011 Placement Report).

NOTE: The average starting salary of an Entrepreneur can vary depending on what business you go into and how successful it is. However, the average reported salary for graduates with this major is $39,096 with a mid-career salary of $85,275 (source College Factual… Entrepreneurial Studies 2017)

Program Competencies


At the completion of the Entrepreneurship Certificate, students will be able to:

  1. Examine introductory business applications and strategies needed to start and operate a small business,
  2. Complete entrepreneurship preparation and feasibility analysis
  3. Prepare a business plan
  4. Evaluate the intricacies of marketing their company’s products and services
  5. Critique managing a business operation
  6. Assess financial concepts including balance sheets and income statements
