This certificate provides students with the advanced technology and skills required to develop, enhance and maintain most commercial website applications, with an emphasis on server-side capability and high-level scripting skills.

This certificate is recommended for students who have been working in this field and are seeking additional education in web development skills and technologies. This certificate is also available for those students who have already completed the Web Developer, Certificate  or Web Developer, Diploma  .

Graduation Requirements


To earn an Advanced Web Developer certificate, a student must complete all coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

Total Credits Required to Complete this Certificate - 12


 These credits are applicable to the Web Developer diploma and the Web Developer, Full Stack, AAS degree  .

What Kind of Work Will You Do?


  • Use a variety of technologies and software tools to implement advanced functionality in website applications.
  • Create and/or implement server-side functionality such as blogs, event calendars, newsletter registration/delivery, forums, etc.
  • Create and implement server-side functionality to website application such as database-driven product pages, e-commerce payment processing, inventory management, shopping carts, event registration and other content management system functionality.
  • Work within existing layouts and presentations to implement functionality.
  • Interact with web designers and web developers as part of a group or team on a project.

What Skills and Abilities Will You Need?


  • Strong background on HTML/XHTML, CSS and javascript.
  • Ability to define a problem, create a solution and then implement that solution.
  • Interest and ability to figure out how things work.
  • Good communication skills, especially written and personal skills.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work without a lot of supervision.
  • Excellent time management skills.

What Else Should I Consider about this Certificate program?


  • Classes require daily use of a computer with current software and operating system.
  • The material, software and technologies within this program change very rapidly.
  • Many employment opportunities are part-time, contract and self-employed work that depend upon proven experience or work examples.
  • This certificate provides more web programming skills and an emphasis on writing code within website applications.
