The Robotics & Control Systems Engineering Technology program prepares students for careers as technicians in industrial manufacturing. At the end of the program, students should be able to diagnose and repair industrial equipment ranging from the basic motor control devices used in hard automation to the sophisticated industrial robots and computer-integrated manufacturing cells that utilize microprocessors for programming and servo control.

The curriculum includes both fundamental technologies and system applications. Upon program completion, students may seek employment maintaining plant equipment with area manufacturers or with companies that produce process control or robotic devices.

Graduation Requirements


To earn a Robotics & Control Systems Engineering Technology AAS degree, a student must complete all coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

What Kind of Work Will You Do?


  • Repair motor control devices and automated equipment.
  • Perform installation and configuration of process control and robotic equipment including PLCs, servos, and vision systems.
  • Perform update modifications of existing systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and periodic performance checks.
  • Maintain service records of equipment.
  • Interact with managerial and operational work force in the industrial processing field.

What Skills and Abilities Will You Need?


  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic principles of electronics, physics, mathematics and industrial equipment.
  • Apply such knowledge to problems surrounding the operation, installation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of process control and robotic equipment.
  • Communicate with industrial processing people, both the managers and the operational work force, about the safe operation, installation and modification of equipment.
  • Demonstrate ability to understand the technical manuals and other literature to upgrade existing skills and learn new skills.
  • May include physically strenuous activities. 

What Else Should I Consider about this Program or Career Choice?


  • Graduates are employed as automation technicians in fields such as computer automated water treatment systems, mail sorting automation, security, computer-controlled systems, manufacturing, environmental control and automated food processing.
  • May work irregular hours and may have occasional “on-call” duties.
  • 2020 Annual Median Pay: $67,550.

  5. Employ logic, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in the troubleshooting of electronic systems and motion control systems
