The Graphic Design AAS degree program explores the exciting and challenging field of graphic design while focusing on both the creative and technical aspects of the industry.

This program takes direction from current design professionals and businesses by developing training to instill industry standard skills in our students. Classes provide students with design skills, web and print software skills, and professional work practices needed to get a position in this highly competitive field.

Classes are taught by professionals with real-world experience. Community is built by small class sizes that promote student to student, and teacher to student interaction.

Most graduates who gain employment begin in entry-level positions.  Passionate and hard-working students have started as mid-level designers and some have worked into being owners of successful freelance businesses.

The Graphic Design program prepares students to find employment with advertising agencies, corporate design departments, web design companies, book and magazine publishing, digital media companies, graphic design firms, printing companies, newspapers and marketing firms.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will have taken courses in communication design, web design, typography, traditional and digital illustration, digital image editing, and page layout.

Students will start the Fall semester after completing required application steps. Spring and summer courses are offered for students wanting to pre-start the program.

Graduation Requirements


To earn a Graphic Design AAS degree, a student must complete all coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average. Students are required to produce a portfolio of graphic design work that demonstrates their ability to conceptualize and produce a variety of creative and effective multichannel communication collateral and to attend the Portfolio Day event.

What Kind of Work Will You Do?


  • Develop the overall layout and production of magazines, newspapers, journals and corporate reports.
  • Design web pages, interactive media and multimedia projects.
  • Produce promotional displays, packaging and marketing brochures for products and services.
  • Create distinctive logos and brands for a variety of businesses and services.
  • Develop signs and signage systems for business and government.

  • Possess critical thinking skills and creative problem-solving skills in order to assess a client’s needs and develop a design strategy.
