Thinking of starting your own business? The Accounting for Entrepreneurs Certificate is designed with you in mind. This certificate will give you the skills needed to handle the financial requirements needed in a small business. Emphasis will include strong skills in accounting software including widely used QuickBooks, Sage, Excel, and Access. The certificate is designed for the part-time and full-time student.

Students may start any semester.


Graduation Requirements


To earn an Accounting for Entrepreneurs Certificate, a student must complete all coursework as prescribed, maintain a 2.0 grade point average and receive a grade of “C” or higher in all ACC coursework.

What Kind of Work Will You Do?


  • Perform basic accounting skills needed in a small business.
  • Prepare payroll reports, spreadsheet analysis, and budgets.
  • Use QuickBooks, Peachtree, and Excel in the small business operations.
  • Communicate with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.

What Else Should I Consider about this Specialist Certificate?


  • Each hour of class requires two to three hours of preparation.
  • Reading and math skills are very important.
  • Career advancement will ordinarily require further training and education.
  • Regular classroom attendance is important for continuity of learning.

Program Competencies


  1. Demonstrate the basic workplace skills of listening, writing, communicating, problem-solving, interpersonal relationships and leadership.​
  2. Demonstrate double-entry accounting.​
  3. Generate computerized financial and management reports (Excel).​
  4. Produce personnel and payroll records in conformance with current legal requirements.
  5. Solve problems on a calculator/keyboard.​
