Fire Science Technology, AS

The Fire Science program is designed to provide both in-service and pre-service students with sound technical and academic experiences, enabling them to assume positions of responsibility as members of fire departments or as technical employees of industrial firms and insurance companies. The program provides training in detecting and eliminating fire hazards and causes through periodic inspections, remedial recommendations, and systematic follow-ups.

Students start any semester.

Program Entry Requirements

  1. Complete an application for admission.
  2. Satisfy the assessment requirement.
  3. Attend any required information/registration session.
  4. Obtain a minimum COMPASS Reading score of 81 or a minimum ACT Reading score of 19.
  5. Obtain a minimum COMPASS English score of 70 or a minimum ACT Writing score of 19.
  6. Obtain a minimum COMPASS Pre-Algebra score of 39 or a minimum ACT Math score of 14.

Graduation Requirements

To earn a Fire Science Technology AS degree, a student must complete the standard core requirements for the degree, plus the Fire Science Technology required courses and must maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

If the student completes MGT 145  with a grade of “C” or higher, the course will meet the Diversity Requirement. If the student does not complete MGT 145 , the student must complete one of the other courses listed under the Diversity Requirement. See the AA /AS  section of this catalog for more information.
