The insurance certificate course has been designed for students seeking entry-level positions in the burgeoning insurance industry. Besides learning insurance related employable skills and terminology, strong focus is placed on increasing the “soft skills” of the individual.

Graduation Requirements


To earn an Insurance Services Certificate, a student must complete all coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

There are several insurance companies located in the Des Moines area.  Companies like Nationwide and Principal Financial Group have supported this certificate program because of their need for qualified employees in these entry level positions.

Program Competencies


  1. Build and develop knowledge, skills and attitudes in areas of analytical thinking and problem solving.
  2. Demonstrate interpersonal skills, specifically related to customer service. 
  3. Demonstrate college level oral and written communication skills. 
  4. Demonstrate proficiency in basic computer skills. 
  5. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the insurance industry.
