Renewable Energy Technology, AAS

Renewable Energy Technology is a five term AAS program that provides students conceptual and hands-on training in technology and practices used in the growing fields of electrical, electronic and renewable energy. This program is designed to prepare technicians with the skills to support, explain, and troubleshoot a wide variety of electrical projects pertaining to solar power. Students learn about the production, storage and distribution of electrical energy from a variety of traditional and renewable energy sources.

Program Entry Requirements


  1. Complete an application for admission.
  2. Satisfy the assessment requirement.
  3. Minimum ALEKS math placement score of 30, or minimum ACT math score of 19, or completion of MAT 063 with a grade of “C” or higher.
  4. Attend any required information/registration session.

Program Graduation Requirements


To earn a Renewable Energy, AAS Degree, a student must complete all required coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of test equipment used for testing, calibrating and maintaining electronic equipment.
  • Apply knowledge to problems with the operation, installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment.
  • Demonstrate ability to understand technical manuals and reference material to upgrade existing skills and learn new skills.
  • Communicate with managers and staff regarding the safe operation, Installation and modification of electronic systems.

Program Competencies


  1. Demonstrate knowledge of basic principles of electronics, physics, mathematics, and industrial equipment.
  2. Appraise problems surrounding the operation, installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electronic systems.
  3. Communicate with managers and staff regarding the safe operation, installation, and modification of electronic systems.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to understand technical manuals and other literature to upgrade existing skills and learn new skills.
  5. Employ logic, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in the troubleshooting of electronic systems and components.
  6. Demonstrate the basic and emerging principles and concepts that impact generation, transport, installation, operation, and maintenance of technologies and related equipment used to produce energy.
