The purpose of the E-Discovery certificate is to provide a course of study for students to concentrate in the areas of litigation support as it related to discovery of the electronically stored information. This certificate is best suited for people who have a background in litigation support, including paralegals, legal assistants, and in-house legal IT professionals.

Program Entry Requirements


  1. Complete an application for admission.
  2. Successful completion of CSC 116  or equivalent, or approval of the program academic advisor. 
  3. Satisfy the assessment requirement.
  4. Attend any required information/registration session.

Program Graduation Requirements


To earn an E-Discovery Certificate, a student must complete all required coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

What Kind of Work Will You Do?


The E-Discovery Certificate is designed for students who would like to obtain knowledge in proper techniques and methods of identifying, preserving, culling, processing and producing relevant and responsive data in a litigation matter. This program will give students the knowledge and skills to perform the following jobs:

  • Litigation Support/E-Discovery Specialist
  • Technical Legal Assistant/Paralegal
  • E-Discovery Consultant

What Else Should I Consider about this Program or Career Choice?


Professionals in the E-Discovery will be responsible for vast amounts of data and must be able to manage multiple cases quickly, efficiently and with a high degree of accuracy. The material is often highly confidentially and must be handled in the most secure manner. Digital evidence may also involve emotionally disturbing visual material and can potential lead to addiction to pornographic images.

Program Competencies


  1. Identify potentially relevant digital/electronic evidence
  2. Collect and preserve the identified evidence in manner acceptable for judicial proceedings
  3. Parse the data to the relevant material
  4. Produce data to clients, litigation parties or the courts in reasonable manner.
