Horticulture, Turf, Certificate



The Turf  certificate will allow students to earn recognition for work completed in the area of turf maintenance. This certificate will provide students with the opportunity to develop specific skills related to the maintenance of such turfgrass areas as lawns, parks, athletic fields and golf courses.

  2. Satisfy the assessment requirement.
  3. Attend any required information/registration session.

Graduation Requirements


To earn a Turf certificate,  a student must complete all coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

Total Credits Required to Complete this Certificate - 18


These credits are applicable to the AAS degree in Horticulture  .

What Kind of Work Will You Do?


  • Mowing, fertilization, pesticide application, aeration, top dressing and marking of commercial, and recreational turf areas.

  • Understanding of turf in response to human, climate, and soils influences.

  • This may initially lead to seasonal employment only; experience over time may lead to full-time employment.

Program Competencies


  1. Identify factors that influence plant growth.
  2. Correlate soil characteristics with their impacts on plant growth.
  3. Demonstrate understanding of plant taxonomy, morphology, physiology and pathology.
  4. Determine proper plant selection, planting, pruning and other cultural practices.
  5. Establish positive safety practices and procedures.
  6. Demonstrate basic job and human relation skills
