Fitness/Exercise Management AAS

Fitness/Exercise Management degree is designed to be a two-year degree. The degree is for individuals who would like to pursue a career in the fitness, exercise or related health fields. Graduates from the program may also be able to find entry-level positions at fitness clubs, parks and recreation departments, YMCA/YWCAs, private health clubs, schools, hospitals, or specialized fitness centers. Program Graduation Requirements


To earn an AAS in Fitness/Exercise Management a student must complete all required coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

What Kind of Work Will You Do?


  • Use and instruct people on the proper use of various types of physical fitness/exercise equipment.
  • Inform people on the physiological functions of the body in fitness training.
  • Determine the fitness level people should work at and develop an appropriate fitness program.
  • Market and develop social media for fitness and exercise programs.
  • Evaluate and maintain records of fitness and exercise programs and facilities.
  • Direct the operation of a fitness, exercise, or health facilities.
  • Budget facility needs.

  • Operate and maintain fitness/exercise equipment.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques on various types of fitness/exercise equipment.
  • Must have the necessary physical abilities to perform demonstrations.
  • Apply knowledge of physiological principles.
  • Build confidence in those with doubt or difficulty associated with exercise.
  • Be able to identify individual fitness/exercise needs.
  • Organization skills for performance of fitness activities.
  • Communication skills for diverse types of personalities.
  • Organize fitness classes, personal training classes, and exercise programs.

  • You will be assigned to a program advisor.
  • This program is for individuals who want to work in the field after they awarded their A.A.S. degree.
  • You will be working and advising people of all ages.
  • You may be working with injured people/athletes.
  • You may be dealing with physically, mentally, or socially limitations.
  • You may have to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Program Competencies


  1. Develop fitness and exercise programs for all ages and abilities.
  2. Lead recreation & fitness activities for all ages.
  3. Assess individual recreation & fitness skills and need for all ages.
  4. Prepare and submit verbal and written reports.
  5. Work with budgeting to include the purchasing and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
  6. Organize and supervise staff.
  7. Teach and demonstrate any fitness and exercise activities.
  8. Organize, develop and conduct fitness and exercise programs.
  9. Demonstrate empathy and understanding while teaching an exercise or activity.
  10. Mediate and problem solve difficult situation as they arise.
