Software developers usually have a bachelor’s degree in computer science and strong computer programming skills. In May 2017, the median annual wage for applications software developers was $101,790. The median annual wage for systems software developers was $107,600 in May 2017. Employment of software developers is projected to grow 24 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations.
