The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than that amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $47,090, and the top 10 percent earned more than $132,530. Most computer programmers have a bachelor’s degree; however, some employers hire workers with an associate’s degree. Most programmers specialize in a few programming languages. Software developers usually have a bachelor’s degree in computer science and strong computer programming skills. In May 2017, the median annual wage for applications software developers was $101,790. The median annual wage for systems software developers was $107,600 in May 2017. Employment of software developers is projected to grow 24 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations. The main reason for the rapid growth is a large increase in the demand for computer software. Salary Information Source: U.S. Bureau Of Labor Statistics http://www.bls.gov/home.htm.
