This degree is designed to be a two-year degree.  The degree is designed for individuals who would like to pursue a career in the fitness, sports, recreation or health fields.  The Fitness and Sports Management AA degree is a transfer degree, designed to prepare students for a Fitness Management, Sports Management and Health program at a four-year school.  Graduates from the program may also be able to find entry level positions at parks and recreation departments, YMCA/YWCA, private health clubs, gold courses, schools, hospitals or other facility management positions.  For more information about the Fitness and Sports Management program, please visit our website at www.dmacc.edu/programs/fitness.

Program Graduation Requirements


To earn a Sports Management AA , a student must complete all required coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

What Kind of Work Will You Do?


  • Use and instruct people on the proper use of various types of physical fitness/exercise and sport equipment.
  • Inform people on the physiological functions of the body in fitness and sport training.
  • Determine the fitness levels people should work at and develop an appropriate fitness program.
  • Market and develop social media for your programs.
  • Evaluate and maintain records of sport and recreation programs and facilities.
  • Direct the operation of a sport, recreation, or fitness department or facility.
  • Budget recreation, sport, or facility needs.

What Skills and Abilities Will You Need?


  • Operate and maintain fitness/exercise and sport equipment.
  • Demonstrate proper techniques on various types of fitness/exercise and sport equipment.
  • Must have the necessary physical abilities to perform demonstrations.
  • Apply knowledge of physiological principles.
  • Build confidence in those with doubt or difficulty associated with exercise and sport.
  • Be able to identify individual fitness/exercise needs.
  • Organization skills for performance of fitness activities and sport/recreation facilities.
  • Communication skills for diverse types of personalities.
  • Organize sports and recreation tournaments.
