Information Technology/Network Administration, AAS

The ITNA program will provide students with a foundation in the basic technologies of computer networking, both as an objective and measurable skill set, as well as a preface to certification. In addition, students may also prepare for CISCO certification by choosing to take the CISCO option courses. The modular design of the core/certification integration is designed to allow the future addition of other professional certifications.

Program Entry Requirements

  1. Complete an application for admission.
  2. Attend any required information/registration session.
  3. Satisfy the required assessment by taking the reading and English COMPASS test or equivalent.
  4. Minimum ALEKS placement score of 14, or minimum score of 15 on the ACT exam, or completion of MAT 053  with a grade of “C” or higher.

Graduation Requirements

To earn an Information Technology Network Administration AAS degree, a student must complete all coursework as prescribed and maintain a 2.0 grade point average.

What Kind of Work Will You Do?

  • Troubleshoot and repair computer system hardware and software problems.
  • Perform installation of computer systems.
  • Perform update modifications of existing systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and periodic performance checks.
  • Design, implement and/or administer networking systems.
  • Interact with professional people in the business computer field.

What Skills and Abilities Will You Need?

  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic principles of electronics, physics, mathematics and programming.
  • Apply such knowledge to problems surrounding the operation, installation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of computer and network equipment.
  • Communicate with business people, computer operators and technicians about the safe operation, installation and modification of equipment.
  • Demonstrate ability to understand technical manuals and other literature to upgrade existing skills and learn new skills.

  7. Differentiate the operation of various network components.
  8. Design personal computer network system installations.
  9. Pass the Network+ or CCNA Routing and Switching certification exams.
  10. Write computer programs in an upper level programming language.
  11. Install various personal computer software applications.
  12. Investigate various network business and management software applications.
  13. Pass the exams for a chosen certificate track.
  14. Demonstrate cooperation and team work skills in all assigned projects.
