MAP 118 - Medical Office Management IICredits: 4 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 2 Practicum Hours: 0 Work Experience: 0 Course Type: Voc/Tech Study of health insurance, HMOs, Workers’ Compensation, Medicare, Tri-care and Medicaid. Students will use critical thinking skills to incorporate cognitive knowledge in the performance of psychomotor and affective domains including insurance filing, CPT, ICD and HCPCS coding, posting of charges/payments both manually and with computer applications, telephone techniques, fax machine, appointment scheduling and chart audits. Students keep financial records and utilize both EMR and traditional charts to manage patient records. Psychomotor skills include inventory control, purchasing, quality control, quality improvement and management of facility, equipment and supplies. Students utilize policy, procedure and safety manuals. Prerequisite: Grade of C or better in MAP 110
