Topics include identifying and mitigating common jobsite hazards, safe work habits, personal protective equipment (PPE), and general industry best practices. The course prepares students to recognize potential safety risks and apply basic safety protocols to maintain a safe and productive work environment across various construction settings.
Competencies

Demonstrate foundational construction safety practices in compliance for residential, commercial, and general worksites
1. Identify common workplace hazards related to construction activities and environments
2. Demonstrate work habits and behaviors expected in professional construction settings
Select appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for construction tasks
1. Identify types of PPE commonly used in residential and commercial construction
2. Determine appropriate PPE based on specific jobsite tasks and hazards
3. Demonstrate correct use and maintenance of PPE in construction environments
Evaluate hand/power tools and their proper uses in the construction trade
1. Demonstrate the ability to safely use the proper tool for the application/process.
2. Inspect hand tools to determine if they are safe to use.
3. Demonstrate proper storage and care of tools
Assess electrical safety
1. Identify electrical safety protocols
2. Inspect visually electrical cords to determine if they are safe to use
3. Safely handle and store electrical cords
